Milestones

¡¤ In August 1989, CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) undertook the construction of NCFC(National Computing and Networking Facility of China) project, the predecessor of CSTNET, which was launched by State Development Planning Commission and sponsored by World Bank Loan

¡¤ In March 1994, NCFC launched China' s first formal Internet link--64K leased line.

¡¤ In April 1994, NCFC firstly implemented the full-function connection to the Internet with the link between NCFC and NSF £¬ which declared the birth of the first Internet link in China.

¡¤ In March 1995, CASNET accomplished the remote link to its sub branches in Shanghai, Hefei, Wuhan and Nanjing, which was the first milestone indicating that CASNET was growing up across China.

¡¤ In April 1995, CASNET launched internetworking project of the institutes outside Beijing, which was called Internetworking of 100 CAS Institutes , with the purpose to extend CASNET up to 24 major cities across China and implement the internetworking among them.

¡¤ In December 1995, the project Internetworking of 100 CAS Institutes was completed. Based on it, CASNET has grown up gradually and linked up to many institutes and government offices outside CAS. It became the nationwide Internet with focus on science, education, government office and so on.

¡¤ In February 1996, CASNET was formally named CSTNET by CAS.

¡¤ In June 1996, CSTNET launched the 64K DDN channel with the connection to CHINANET.

¡¤ In June 1997, CSTNET upgraded the international satellite link to 2M .

¡¤ In October 1997, NCFC accomplished large-scale deployment and application in CAS and the scientific and technical community of nation, and passed the acceptance test of State Development Planning Commission.

¡¤ In June 1998, CSTNET-CHINANET link was upgraded to 2M .

¡¤ In August 1999, CSTNET Internet satellite link was upgraded to 8M .

¡¤ In November 1999, CSTNET hosted a National Client Symposium in Kunming, and entitled 12 institutes in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dalian, Yunnan, and Sin kiang etc, to be CSTNET sub centers.

¡¤ In December 1999, CSTNET Internet satellite link was upgraded to 10M .

¡¤ In January 2000, CSTNET-CHINANET link was upgraded to 8M .

¡¤ In April 2000, CSTNET was linked to Beijing National Internet Switching Center with 155M , implementing inter-connections with other 9 backbone networks in China.

¡¤ In May 2000, CSTNET hosted CANS'2000 (Chinese American Network Symposium 2000).

¡¤ In November 2000, CSTNET Internet export bandwidth was upgraded to 55M .

¡¤ In June 2001, CSTNET opened its direct 155M link with CHINANET.

¡¤ In May 2003, CSTNET started to set up the Video Conference System of CAS during the SARS period.

¡¤ In July 2003, CSTNET started to test the Video Conference System with Nanjing, Shenyang, Lanzhou, Sinkiang and Hefei sub centers.

¡¤ In July 2003, CSTNET launched the video conference system between 12 sub centers across China.

¡¤ In July 2003, CSTNET implemented CAS network bandwidth upgrade from 2M or 8M to 155M including 9 branch academies such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hefei, Lanzhou, Shenyang, Nanjing, Wuhan, Sinkiang and Kunming. Subsequently, CSTNET took on the backbone link upgrade of Chengdu , Sian, Changchun institutes, and then realized comprehensive upgrade of 12 sub-branches backbone.

¡¤ In August 2003, a video conference of CPC Enlarged Session of CAS was held and CSTNET was in charge of the system debugging to make the conference a complete success.

¡¤ In December 2003, Sponsored by CSTNET, hosted by GIC (Guangzhou Institute of Chemistry), CAS, CSTNET Network Training Symposium 2003 was held in Sanya successfully.

¡¤ In January 2004, President Jiang Mianheng, US and RUSSIA delegates pressed the button in Beijing at the same time, that officially declared the GLORIAD's opening. CSTNET will provide high-speed bandwidth for advanced application to organize and promote multiple cross-subject applications and resources sharing.

¡¤ In January 2004, the member of SCPB (the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau) of CCCPC (the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China), Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao came to CAS, visiting Scientific Innovation Exhibition on Computer Network. Professor Yan Baoping, President of CNIC delivered a reported to him on CSTNET background and infrastructure.

¡¤ In January 2004, CSTNET delegates participated in the Next Generation Internet Plan Symposium held in HK and APAN (Asian-Pacific Advanced Network )Meeting held in USA.

¡¤ In January 2004, CSTNET delegates participated in APAN (Asian-Pacific Advanced Network )Meeting held in USA.

¡¤ In January 2004, CSTNET took charge of CAS anti- spam work.

¡¤ In March 2004, CSTNET delegates attended China-Korea Peering link Symposium.

¡¤ In April 2004, CSTNET celebrated her 10th anniversary.

¡¤ In June 2004, CSTNET delegates participated in the IT Communication and Digital Resource Sharing Symposium held in Taiwan China.

¡¤ In June 2004, CSTNET undertook the establishment and transition of CAS Mail System.

¡¤ In July 2004, CSTNET delegates attended APAN (Asian-Pacific Advanced Network )Meeting held in Australia.

¡¤ In September 2004, CSTNET delegates attended the Third UK e-Science Congress-China-USA-Russia GLORIAD Symposium held in UK.

¡¤ In October 2004, CSTNET Network Technology Symposium 2004 was held successfully in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

¡¤ In November 2004, CSTNET delegates participated in discussion of Next Generation Internet Program held in HK.

¡¤ In November 2004, CAS launched Hong Kong Internet Open Exchange Point (HKOEP) -HK Light.

¡¤ In November 2004, CSTNET attended the Chinese-American Advanced Network Symposium 2004 held in USA (CANS' 2004).

¡¤ In December 2004, CSTNET HK-Japan Gigabit circuit started running.

¡¤ In January 2005, CSTNET HK-Chicago STM-1/OC3 ( 155M ) circuit was renovating.

¡¤ In January 2005, CSTNET HK-Taiwan Gigabit Circuit started running.

¡¤ In March 2005, CSTNET took on video living broadcast of CAS Working Conference 2005 successfully.

¡¤ In March 2005, CSTNET-CNC direct link upgraded from 155M to 1G , which enhanced the link rate between CSTNET and CNC obviously.

¡¤ In May 2005, the vice-president of CAS Jiang Mianheng and vice-minister of Information Industry Ministry Xi Guohua visited the exhibition of CSTNET VoIP project.

¡¤ In June 2005, the 1st China-Korea Joint Workshop on Advanced Network Engineering and Applications was held by CSTNET and KISTI.

¡¤ In July 2005, CSTNET Network Technology Symposium 2005 was held successfully in Lijiang, Yunnan province.

¡¤ In July 2005, CSTNET-KISTI direct link was upgraded from 155M to 10G .

¡¤ In August 2005, CSTNET delegates attended the 20th APAN (Asian-Pacific Advanced Network )Meeting held in Taiwan.

¡¤ In October 2005, CSTNET hosted Hong Kong Open Exchange Point Symposium in Hong Kong.

¡¤ In October 2005, CSTNET hosted the Press Conference ¡ª 1st Anniversary of Hong Kong Open Exchange Point (HKOEP) established by CAS in Hong Kong.

¡¤ In November 2005, CSTNET hosted CANS'2005 (China American Network Symposium) in Shenzhen.

¡¤ In December 2005, CSTNET attended MEGACONFERENCE VII (The Worldwide Videoconference over Advanced Networks).

¡¤ In December 2005 CSTNET upgraded Beijing-Shanghai link to 2.5G .

¡¤ In January 2006, CSTNET delegates attended 21st APAN (Asian-Pacific Advanced Network )Meeting held in Japan.
